Born Mar 1 1779, Mill Creek, Berkeley County, Virginia.2,4,5,6,7,8  

He married Charlotte Malick2,4,9,10 [Charlotte Malich2, Charlotte Melick2, Charlott Maleck1, Charlott Malick11, Charlott Matlick12], Apr 10 18022,4,9,10, Frederick County, Virginia2,4,9,10.  Charlotte, daughter of Philip Melick & Maria King, was born Jul 27 1778.2,4  

In 1799 Washington moved from Rockingham County, Virginia to Greene County, Tennessee and erected the first mill of importance in Greene County.3  (it has also been reported that Washington moved to Tennessee in 1806).2,13,14,15  

Washington Hanshaw was recorded in the 1812 Tax List of Greene County, Tennessee.16  

Charlotte died Feb 24 1822, Greene County, Tennessee.2,4  

He then married Sarah Ann Boswell, Jul 28 1822.2  Sarah was born Mar 3 1778.2  Sarah Ann Boswell Wiley was the widow of Able Wiley (married May 31 1803; Able had died Feb 17 1821).2  

In 1823 Washington was named Green County Turnpike Commissioner.17  

Washington and family were shown in the 1830 census living in Greene County, Tennessee:18

He then married Jane Robinson, Feb 13 1834, Greene County, Tennessee.1,2,13,14,19,20  Jane was born about 17878 [about 178121], Tennessee8.  Jane had been a widow.13,14  

Washington and Jane were shown in the 1840 census, still living in Greene County, Tennessee:22

Washington and Jane were again shown in the 1850 census, Greene County, Tennessee:8

Washington Henshaw, age 71, born in Virginia; farmer; $600 real estate.
Jane Henshaw, age 63, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
Viana Stokes, age 21, female, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
The 1850 census shows living next door on one side was son Levi23 and on the other side was son Philip.24  

The 1850 Slave Schedule (Oct 7 1850) showed the following for Washington Henshaw:25

Washington Henshaw household:
1 mulatto male, age 15.

Washington was affiliated with the Methodist Church.2,3  He donated the land for the church cemetery where he is buried (deeded Apr 21 1821).2  

Washington Henshaw died Feb 11 18532,4,5,7 [Feb 11 18526], Greene County, Tennessee2,4,5,7; buried Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery, on State Highway 170, four miles southeast of Tusculum, Greene County, Tennessee2,4,5,7.  

Washington's will was dated January 16, 1853 and was probated April 4, 1853.2,26  In his will Washington named wife Jane; sons Philip, Levi, William; and daughters Nancy Harrison, Rebecca Williamson, and Rheuhama Leming.2  His will reads:27

"To wife, Jane, what she brought here with her, $100, house, kitchen and garden.  To my son, Levi, to have slave, Tom, who is to be set free when 25 years old.  To son, Philip, my book.  To daughter, Maria Alexander, $100 in banknotes.  Children William, Nancy Harrison, Rebecca Williamson and Ruhama Lemming to have $120 each.  Land on Middle Creek to River, grist mill and saw mill."  Executors: Levi Henshaw, A.W. Howard, Joseph P. Jane, Thomas Davis.  Witnesses: David Rice, S. M. Doak, J. P. Janes, James F. Broyles.

In the 1860 census, widow Jane was shown living in the household of stepson Levi:21

Jane Hanshaw, age 74, born in Tennessee; $2000 real estate; $1000 personal property.

Jane died Jul 10 1867, Greene County, Tennessee; age 79 yrs., 7 mo., 7 days.2
